Current Projects:
Our major project for 2010 is conducting a raffle to benefit HopeTree Services - Hope Tree Academy which offers Day School services to a wider cross section of alternative and special education students in the Valley.
1st prize is a framed print "The Christening" (Etching, valued at $1400. Framing was donated by Graphics, Etc. with a value of $475. Total value of framed print is $1875.
2nd prize is a handmade patterned quilt "Crosses and Bars" donated by a friend of Moss in the Valley, Don Bunce. The value of the quilt is $900. Drawing will be held on November 15, 2010, at our regular chapter meeting.
Raffle tickets are $1.00 each of six tickets for $5.00. Tickets may be ordered from Peggy Rogers, Treasurer, at 2955 Golf Colony Drive, Salem, VA 24153.
Past Activities:
2009 - We donated $3,083 to Apple Ridge Farms, Inc. by holding a raffle of a remarqued P. Buckley Moss print "Colonial Winter". We raised funds to send two teachers to the Education Conference. We filled 30 bags of personal items for Battered Women and Children's shelter. In addition, we support the Ronald McDonald House on a monthly basis.
2008 - We donated $2,597 to the RAM (Roanoke Area Ministries), by holding a raffle of a remarqued P. Buckley MOss print, "Baylor's Mill."
In addition, we provided scholarships for two teachers to attend the Creative Mind Conference, donated items monthly to Ronald McDonald House,including providing a meal, provided 30 bags of personal items to Battered Women's Shelter and donated items to our local SPCA.
2007 - We donated $2,565 to the Apple Ridge Farms by holding a raffle of a Moss remarqued print, "A Snowy Day." We raised funds to send two teachers to the Education Conference. Our members raised $1,155 for Leukemia and Lymphoma by participating in "Light the Night Walk." We support the Ronald McDonald House on a monthly basis by bring items to donate for their use in the daily operations of the house.
2006 - We donated $3,409 to St. Francis of Assisi by holding a raffle of a Moss remarqued print, "Country Church."
2005 - We donated $3,376 to the Ronald McDonald House, Roanoke, by holding a raffle of an Moss etching, "The Christening."
In past years we have raised money for the Turning Point Shelter, Camp Easter Seal, the Achievement Center, the Ronald McDonald House, the West End Center, the Roanoke Therapeutic Riding Program, and the Christmas Store.
Since our chapter began in 1989, we have raised over $65,000 for charities in our immediate area.
