P. Buckley Moss Documentary
WVPT, Channel 51 in Harrisonburg, Virginia, has completed its documentary about Pat Moss, “The Lady Behind the Brush.” The DVD can be ordered through your dealer or from The Moss Portfolio for $24.95. Any Moss fan or chapter would enjoy viewing this outstanding story of her life. We would also encourage members and chapters to have their local public television stations purchase and show this documentary.

Mellay Gardner Receives 20009 Harbison Award
The 2009 recipient of the Harbison Scholarship is Mellay Gardner of Salem, Ohio. She grew from a struggling nonreader to become a class valedictorian. Diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia when she was three years old, she received high-dose chemotherapy from that time until age six. This treatment resulted in traumatic brain injury, which manifests itself in deficits in attention, processing speed, visualmotor skills, cognitive flexibility, working memory, and fine-motor coordination.

Muneera Fontaine Receives 2009 Cary Award
The thirteenth recipient of this scholarship is Muneera Fontaine of Ft. Worth, Texas. She is pursuing her doctoral degree from the Interdisciplinary Council on Developmental and Learning Disorders. Muneera was the little girl who always played teacher in her room with her dolls and stuffed animals. She stated, “I would set up a play chalkboard and line my dolls up in rows and instruct them on their ABC’s.”

Alyssa Foster Receives Endowed Scholarship
A June graduate of Mid-Prairie High School, Alyssa Foster of Riverside, Iowa, is the recipient of a $1,000 award from the P. Buckley Moss Endowed Scholarship.

Society Amends Bylaws for Directors, Officers
As a part of its continuing effort to control costs and streamline the management of the Society, the Board of Directors has adopted an amended set of bylaws revising the make-up of the board and extending terms of certain officers. The changes take effect in November after the Society’s 2009 annual meeting of members in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Society Office Changes Several Procedures
Over the past few years, the Society has received numerous comments from members that they would like to receive their members-only print and membership brooch faster. So we re-evaluated the fulfillment processes for the prints and brooches, and we’ve made some changes to make this happen.
